Larry Tanis​

 

Born in Michigan, he received a B.S., with honors, in Mechanical Engineering from the California Polytechnic University in 1968 and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1973. Registered Professional Engineer, Certified Safety Professional and Certified Manufacturing Engineer.

Joined Alcoa in 1968 and have held numerous management positions in engineering, construction, maintenance, operating, research and environmental, total quality management and environment, health and safety (EHS) at 6 Alcoa locations. His last position was Director, Environment, Health and Safety = Europe. He served as Alcoa’s Corporate Safety Director (92-96) where he led Alcoa’s corporate safety program and helped document and implement Alcoa’s Health and Safety Management Systems; lead a team to develop Alcoa’s Major Incident Investigation procedure, FR clothing guidelines and lead the investigation of 21 fatalities at Alcoa. He is an experienced auditor and teacher of Health and Safety Management Systems.

Retired from Alcoa in 2002 and started EHS Consultants, Inc. which provides consulting services on environmental, health and safety processes, training development and delivery, auditing and implementation of countermeasures to manage risk.

​

He currently serves on several boards in Campbell County and is active in Church leading discipleship groups. He has been a servant of Jesus Christ for over 60 years.
